TEACHER'S MESSAGE

We would like to welcome our new Student Teacher - Mr. Jeffrey Ray. He is a student from St. Mary's University and is in his last year of the Teaching Program. We are excited to get to know him and he'll be teaching up to 100% by mid-April.
We are fortunate to still have Mrs. Abass with us (Education Assistant Student Teacher).  Wow we are a fortunate bunch!!

100 days of school is coming up! We will celebrate on Monday, March 2. Your child can be ready by bringing in 100 items (please send something fairly small such as 100 pieces of cereal, 100 pieces of yarn, 100 pieces of paper, 100 hearts on a piece of paper, 100 pieces of lego, 100 pencil crayons, 100 buttons, 100 pieces of dog food, 100 Q-tips, etc). PLEASE NO VALUABLES OR BREAKABLES.  Your child should be able to tell how they counted for example by ones, two's, five's or tens. How did they keep it organized so they didn't lose count. They will tell a classmate and the classmate will then tell the whole class. Your child can fill in these two sentences -
I counted these items by ___________.
I organized these items by ___________.
BRING IN YOUR ITEMS ANY TIME BEFORE MARCH 2. PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON THEIR ITEMS.

Our next Moving and Munching is Friday, Feb. 28 - MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! We will feature these favorite songs - Ryan's Pressure Off, Matthew's Gotta Catch 'Em All and Teddy's We Will Rock You. Sounds like a blast - JOIN US!
THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE A FEW PARENTS TO OFFER TO BUY CARROTS AND/OR CUCUMBERS AND/OR BELL PEPPERS. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP. YOU WILL JUST NEED TO BUY THE ITEMS AND GET THEM TO SCHOOL BY WEDNESDAY, FEB. 26.

Read your child's T.W.A.S. journal every weekend. Please read the note on the front of the journal. thanks
T.W.A.S. (This Week At School)
This journal will come home every Friday. Please take the time to let your child read their T.W.A.S. written work. Parents are encouraged to print a reply to their child’s written work.
OPTIONAL HOMEWORK – Students can write about their weekend. Students will be asked if they would like to share their weekend journal work in class on Monday.   RETURN THIS BOOK EVERY MONDAY.

Wednesday is PINK SHIRT DAY (stand up against bullies and 'lift each other up'). See link below.

We had a very successful time skating. Congratulations to every student who improved and had fun!

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Letter sounds to review at home: p/b/f/v/t/d/a/o/k/g/m/nl/r/u/s/z/i/th/th/qu/sh/zh/ch/w/wh/j/h/x/y/e/KING ED/oo/oo/ou/ow/aw/au

We are busy working on capitals and periods in a sentence. PLEASE CHECK OUT VIDEO LINK BELOW AND PRACTICE WRITING SENTENCES AT HOME. Encourage your child to write a story, write about their day or write to a relative to practice writing proper sentences.

MATH:
We are working on number concepts. Please make sure your child confidently knows all the numbers from 1-20. If not, post and practice at home daily. We are all reviewing ones block and tens block.

OPTIONAL HOMEWORK - Practice counting by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100. Practice counting by 2's to 20. Identify any number from 1-100 (especially confident with 1-20 - the teen numbers can be tricky). Be confident with identifying a number and being able to tell what is one/two more and one/two less.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:

Ask your child about the parts of the tongue. Ask them what happens when you have no saliva on your tongue.

OPTIONAL HOMEWORK - With adult support, try experiments at home. Here is a video to support you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpev_Raequo. Here are some resources - http://www.learnplayimagine.com/2013/01/12-games-and-activities-to-teach.html

GYM:
We'll be moving on to Volleyball next week. Then we also have Dance Strong in the next few weeks too - dancing/grooving/exercising to music.
