TEACHER'S MESSAGE
If you need information regarding the Covid-19 Virus, please look at this link - https://www.cbe.ab.ca/about-us/school-culture-and-environment/health-and-wellness-in-school/Pages/coronavirus.aspx

Please take the time to write  RETURN ALL BOOKS in the colored section of your child's agenda on every THURSDAY. There are several children who come to school on Thursday and have not returned their Learning Commons book
(and are disappointed they can't get out a new book).

VOLUNTEERS - If you have signed up to volunteer in our class, we appreciate your efforts BUT we have been notified that due to the Corona Virus and how it can spread, we ask that Volunteers wait to hear from us as to when you can return to help us out. We will surely miss you in the meantime. Thanks for understanding.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

This week we looked at stories and discussed their Beginning, Middle and End. The stories we heard are below in the link. See if your child can identify the Beginning (state setting, characters and problem), Middle (how the characters attempted to solve the problem) and End (how the characters solved the problem).

Letter sounds to review at home: p/b/f/v/t/d/a/o/k/g/m/nl/r/u/s/z/i/th/th/qu/sh/zh/ch/w/wh/j/h/x/y/e/KING ED/oo/oo/ou/ow/aw/au/oy/oi

NEW SOUND -  'R' CONTROLLED VOWLES - /ar/or/ir/er/ur/
and the sounds for /c/

MATH:
We started looking at how we sort shapes with 1 and 2 attributes. See picture (In our class, we discussed changes in color, shape, size.)
When we discuss attributes - we can asked what changes in the pattern.
See if they can make a pattern that changes one attribute (circle, square, circle, square, circle, square - the SHAPE changes).
See if your child can make a pattern that has two attributes that change (red circle, blue square, red circle, blue square, red circle, blue square - the SHAPE and the COLOR changes)

OPTIONAL HOMEWORK - Practice counting by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100. Practice counting by 2's to 20. Identify any number from 1-100 (especially confident with 1-20 - the teen numbers can be tricky). Be confident with identifying a number and being able to tell what is one/two more and one/two less.

More math homework would be to make up word problems. (KIDS NEEDS TO DRAW A PICTURE TO REPRESENT THE STORY AND WRITE A MATH SENTENCE SUCH AS 17 - 5 = 12).

Here is an example:
John had 17 Pokemon cards. He lost 5 of them. How many did he have left?

Another example:
Tracey has 9 stuffed toys. She got 5 more for her birthday. How many does she have all together?

Another example:
Suzy has ____ hair clips. She lost ____ of them.
How many left?

Another example:
Ted bought ____ cars. He got ___ more. How many does he have all together?

Another example (make up your own story and solve it)
24
3

Another example: (read the number words and write your own story and solve it)
nine
five

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:

We are moving on to the Building Things Unit. Mr. Ray is leading this Unit. We have begun to work on these concept words - construct, materials and purpose.
Ask your child what building they are designing.

OPTIONAL HOMEWORK - Look around your house for items that are built. Identify the item (couch), the materials that were used (fabric, wood, metal) and the purpose (to have a comfy place to sit). Have fun!!

GYM:
We will stay active!
